Four drown while bathing at waterfall; two bodies recovered

Four people have drowned while bathing at Ellewala waterfall in Wellawaya this morning (February 05).

According to the police, one of them was rescued, while two others died. The bodies of the two victims have been recovered.

A search and rescue operation is currently underway to locate the other person who went missing after drowning.


In another development, a small girl who was bathing at Rakkanawa waterfall in Deraniyagala with a group of people has drowned last morning (February 04).

She died after being admitted to the Deraniyagala Hospital in critical condition.

The victim was identified as a nine-year-old from Anhettigama area.
