In keeping with its credo of working closely with the people of Sri Lanka, Janashakthi Insurance PLC recently installed brand new street name boards and directional boards for car parks and the many places of worship in Anuradhapura. This is expected to greatly help the thousands of Buddhist devotees and foreign visitors who are expected to converge on the ancient capital city this Vesak Poya Day.

Vesak Poya 2010 is a very significant year in the Buddhist Calendar since it heralds the dawn of the 2600 Buddha Jayanthi. As a result of this important occasion, several thousands of people from all parts of the country are expected to throng Anuradhapuraand Mihintale.

Going a step further in its drive to assist the public during this ‘greatest poya of the year’, Janashakthi in collaboration with the Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya has put up several banners and cutouts in and around the Sacred City requesting devotees to come with lotus flowers on Poson Poya. The target is 100,000 lotuses. The assistance Janashakthi has extended to the public has been acclaimed as a laudable venture. Not only is it a CSR exercise from a corporate point of view …. it is also a great meritorious act since thousands of people are going to benefit.

Following the tremendous success of its Vehicle Breakdown Assistance Service inAnuradhapura and in Kandyduring the Esala Perahera season last year, Janashakthi will once again conduct a similar service both in Anuradhapuraand Mihintale this Poson Poya.

This Vehicle Breakdown Assistance Service will not only benefit vehicles with policies from Janashakthi Full Option, but also all vehicles irrespective whom they were insured with this project will greatly facilitate a stress-free and hassle-free experience for the thousands of devotees who come from different parts of the island.

Parallely, following a request made by the Director of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, Janashakthi recently completed a project whereby over 100 signage boards were installed at vantage points of the Hospital. Around 5000 people come to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital on a daily basis. Apart from this are more than 1000 in-house patients, 600 OPD patients, 200 doctors and 15 clinics. The absence of proper signage has been both confusing and of great inconvenience to these people, both patients and visitors.

Apart from the main Name Board of the Hospital, the new signage directs people to counters and wards and other important locations in a very methodical and easy-to-understand manner. Both patients and visitors have reacted positively with favourable comments all round.

Director of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, Dr. W.M.T.B Wijekoon thanked JIPLC for facilitating the Hospital’s service levels with the installation of clear signage. “This project has made movement within the hospital premises much easier, with patients and visitors spending less time asking around. My staff and I are grateful to JIPLC for this very magnanimous gesture which tangibly benefits a few thousand people day in and day out”.

Head of Marketing at Janashakthi Insurance PCL Paddy Weerasekera said that the company was happy to be of service to the general public. “We are among the major insurance companies making great strides in the field since we clearly read the pulse of the masses. We believe that the true hallmark of a responsible corporate citizen is giving back to society. This forms a pivotal part of our credo and we take pride in living it”.

Janashakthi Insurance PLC, has over the years been involved with a number of social responsibility projects including dengue awareness, tube wells in rural areas, mobile hospitals, safety lamps, cycle reflector light project, street names boards, road safety message boards, hospital directional signage, H1N1 awareness programmes and vehicle breakdown services to name a few.
