Three escapees apprehended, says Prisons Commissioner

Three of the prisoners who escaped from custody yesterday have been apprehended. Two were arrested by the Police and one by Prisons officials, said Commissioner general of Prisons Major General V.R. de Silva.

 

 

Ten prisoners and a suspect escaped while in detention at the temporary cell at the Maligakanda magistrate’s court yesterday, said Prisons spokesman Commissioner Kenneth Fernando.

 

 

An inquiry has been initiated to probe how these prisoners had escaped while under the custody of Prison guards. He also said that five prison officials have been interdicted in this regard.
