After LTTE’s defeat the police, prosecution services have greater responsibility: Gotabhaya

While the LTTE terrorists were defeated on the front lines by our valiant armed forces, vital operations were undertaken by the police and intelligence services in the rest of the country to counter other activities of the terrorists, Secretary of Defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said at the inaugural speech of the Regional Workshop for Police Officers and Prosecutors in South Asia at Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo this morning (June 8).

“Since the LTTE’´s defeat, the police and prosecution services have an even greater responsibility. It is their task to investigate and interrogate all those who have been detained in relation to terrorist activities, as well as the surrendees,” the Secretary of Defence further said.
The purpose of this workshop is to provide an opportunity to discuss the role of the police and prosecution services in countering terrorism, while sharing expertise and best practices. And also the workshop provides a forum to exchange the latest information on investigation and forensic techniques.
Chief Guest at the occasion was Acting Minister of External Affairs, Gitanjana Gunawardena.
