The principal of a leading school in Ratnapura has been arrested and remanded for sexually abusing several made students, the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) says.

He was arrested following a special investigation carried out into the incident based on a tip-off received by the NCPA.

The investigations have revealed that the principal had discreetly brought the students of the school to his quarters for a long period of time and sexually abused them while luring them with various gifts including cash rewards.

The NCPA further emphasized that more information was uncovered regarding these rewards offered to the students, along with evidence.

The suspect has been remanded in custody on charges of severe sexual abuse, after being produced before the Ratnapura Magistrate’s Court yesterday (23).

The NCPA urges the members of the public to report any incidents of child abuse taking place at schools across the country at the earliest possible to the 1929 – child helpline of the National Child Protection Authority.
