The Supreme Court today issued a stay order suspending the High Court trial against MP Patali Champika Ranawaka, over the 2016 accident at Rajagiriya, until the 15th of March 2023.

The case was lodged over the hit-and-run incident which took place in the year 2016, in which the vehicle the former Minister was travelling in had collided with a motorcycle in Rajagiriya, causing life-threatening injuries to its rider, Sandeep Sampath Gunawardena and the fabrication of evidence related to the accident.

The court issued the order following the consideration of a petition filed by MP Patali Champika Ranawaka regarding the case.
