The stretch of road between the Wellampitiya Junction and Kotikawatta Junction on the Colombo – Avissawella Road will remain temporarily closed for traffic over the weekend, the police said.

Accordingly, the road will remain closed from 10.00 p.m. on October 01 (Saturday) until 5.00 p.m. on October 02 (Sunday).

However, the residents of the aforementioned area will be permitted to use the road for their requirements for a limited time period.

Police have informed the motorists to use alternative roads during this period.

Accordingly, the vehicles travelling from Colombo can move through Wellampitiya Junction to Gothatuwa town via Kolonnawa and can enter the Avissawella road again through Kotikawatta Junction.

Vehicles coming from Avissawella are informed to reach Gothatuwa town via the Kotikawatta Junction and to travel towards Colombo along Kollonnawa from the Wellampitiya Junction.

The temporary road closure is announced due to urgent water pipe laying work from Kaduwela to Orugodawatte, the police explained in a press release.
