June 15, 2010   01:43 pm

UNP MP Mohan Lal Grero today said that while the UNP approved the restriction of tuition classes on Poya days, such a ban on Sundays due to students not attending Sunday school is pointless.

Grero who is also an Educationist explained the United National Parties stance on Education by addressing the issues concerning the prohibition of tuition classes being held on Poya days and Sundays.

One cannot be sure of whether or not students will attend Sunday school due to not having tuition on Sundays, he said.

He also expressed his disapproval of children being sent to tuition classes from tender ages and as it can’t be prohibited by law the parents should be advised and well informed about the matter.

He further added those students who have completed their A/L’s should be given the opportunity to follow degree programs they akin to as not everybody can be Doctors. And that they should also be provided with technical knowledge in their respective fields.
