Several Government Services trade unions are to launch a petition campaign demanding that the Government grant the Rs. 2,500 salary increase as promised earlier.

Though Government servants were promised a salary increase of Rs. 2,500 during the run-up to the last Presidential election it has not materialized as yet, says Government Services Trade Union Confederation (GSTUC) convener Saman Ratnapriya. He also adds that there are no signs of the Government attempting to implement the said salary increase.

Further more, there are no indications of such a step being taken through the forthcoming budget as well, Mr. Ratnapriya charged.

The trade union confederation will launch a petitioning signing campaign beginning Monday (June 28) in front of the Maradana Railway Station to pressurize the government to grant the promised salary hike, says Saman Ratnapriya.
