The civilian authorities in the North have been given the go ahead to resettle displaced civilians within the High Security Zones (HSZs). They will be resettled soon and measures to assist them in continuing with their livelihoods are also being looked into, said Jaffna Government Agent K. Ganesh.

The resettlement programme within the HSZs will be carried out in stages. These civilians have been displaced for a long period of time. After discussions with the civil administration the Security Forces have agreed to open up the zones for resettlement, confirmed Mr. Ganesh.

The security of the resettled families is assured and the main problem faced by them is the continuation of their livelihoods. This aspect too has received due consideration from the government and all measures will be taken to provide them with opportunities to do so, added Government Agent K. Ganesh.
