We held the protest in front to of the United Nations office as the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) and not as a government entity, claimed JNP leader Wimal Weerawansa this morning (July 7).
The protest may have caused inconvenience to the UN staff, but we can only regret such inconvenience, said Mr. Weerawansa who is also the Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing & Common Amenities told the media this morning at the party headquarters in Battaramulla.
His party members will not abandon the fast. If there is no response by this evening the fast will be converted to a fast unto death, said Mr. Weerawansa.
But there were some incidents after the police arrived at the scene. One senior officer who is known to be corrupt went inside the UN office. After coming out he began to use force on the protesting JNP members. He may have got something from the UN, claimed Minister Weerawansa.
Wimal Weerawansa said that some claim that issues like these could be solved by diplomatic means. Those who say so are merely boot lickers of Ban Ki Moon and the UN.
“If we had waited to sort out issues diplomatically, we will be still fighting with the LTTE,” he said.

If he had done anything wrong to embarrass the government, the President will take a decision on it. He may even dismiss him from the government, he said.
“We are expecting support from several unexpected quarters. Even if Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe comes and support us we will welcome him. But he won’t,” claimed Wimal Weerawansa.
