Restaurant owner shot by armed gang in Ahangama dies in hospital

A restaurant owner, who was critically wounded after being shot at yesterday in the Midigama area in Ahangama, has succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.

A group of unidentified individuals who had reportedly arrived in a van had opened fire at the victim in front of his restaurant, according to the police.

He was rushed to the Matara Hospital following the shooting, however he had succumbed to the gunshot wounds while receiving treatment.  

The 32-year-old victim was sitting on a motorcycle in front of the said restaurant when the armed gang had arrived in a van and opened fire at him, using a T-56 assault rifle, according to police.

The suspects involved in the shooting are yet to be identified while the van used in the crime was later found abandoned in the Ahangama area, police said.
