Govt. proposals on LG polls handed over to UNP delegation

A group of United National Party (UNP) members and government members discussed the holding of the upcoming Local Government elections under the electoral basis and not on a proportionate representation system.

 

 

During the meeting at Minister Dinesh Gunawardena’s residence this evening (July 13), the government proposals were handed over to the UNP representatives.

 

 

The UNP members were Joseph Michael Perera, Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, party general Secretary Tissa Attanayake and Lakshman Kiriella. The government members were Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Basil Rajapaksa and Hassan Ali.

 

 

The government proposals were to hold the Local Government polls under an electoral basis, 25 per cent of the nominations to be set aside for the youth and females among others.

 

 

The UNP is to submit the government proposals to its parliamentarians and the party working committee members during a party seminar to be held on Wednesday (tomorrow).
