Bring Army chief before Parliament – Fonseka tells speaker

July 20, 2010   03:47 pm

Retired Gen. Sarath Fonseka today requested the Speaker to summon the Sri Lanka Army Commander before the Parliamentary Privileges Committee for denying him his privileges as a MP to attend sessions of a Select Committee.

Fonseka stated that Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya didn’t make the necessary arrangement that would grant him the opportunity to attend the Parliamentary Select Committee and therefore has denied Fonseka his Parliamentary privileges.

The Speaker has then assured Fonseka that the necessary steps will be taken after information is gathered regarding the matter.
