CHENNAI: Comedian Karunaas on Saturday alleged that the director Seeman-led Nam Thamizhar party was carrying out an SMS campaign against him and his proposed visit to Sri Lanka.

Karunaas, who had come to the City Police Commissioner’s office to lodge a written complaint, told journalists that he had intended to make a thanksgiving pilgrimage to the Kadirgamar temple at Kandy in the Island Nation and participate in the anniversary celebrations of a private FM channel run by an Indian.

Despite the clarification made about the purpose of his visit, activists of Nam Thamizhar party were transmitting the messages that alleged that he had taken Rs. 10 lakhs from the Lankan government for the journey.

“Since 1983, I have been extending a helping hand to Lankan Tamils. I had also helped 25 engineering students to pursue their studies,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Naam Thamizhar party has denied any involvement in the matter. – (Express News Service)
