Govt. is only behind KP’s wealth, charges Tilvin

While the government is taking General Sarath Fonseka to courts it is mollycoddling KP (Kumaran Pathmanathan) with the view of obtaining all his wealth and assets, said Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) General Secretary.
The government is praising KP who is a terrorist while heaping unreasonable charges against General Fonseka who defeated the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). In return for favours, KP is also scratching the government’s back. This is unreasonable and the masses should know the real motives of the government, charged Tilvin Silva while addressing the media at the JVP headquarters in Pelawatte this morning.
KP is not under custody like Sarath Fonseka because the government is after his wealth. KP is not being charged in courts because, if that happens, those who plundered KP’s wealth will be exposed, charged the JVP General Secretary.
While a hero who fought against terrorism is being arbitrarily detained and is being called a traitor, a man who has been responsible for so many killings by the Tigers is being given preferential treatment. While Fonseka was being branded a traitor, the government which has still not named KP as a patriot is heading towards promoting him to that position, claimed Mr. Silva. He added that the JVP condemned the government’s double standards.
While more than a year has passed since the war ended there are still thousands of youth under detention. If the government is genuine in its efforts in developing the country, why cannot the government release those youths and use them to assist in development, asked Tilvin Silva.
While accusing the government of being unable to uphold law and order within the country, Tilvin Silva said that the responsibility lies with the judiciary and not with the President or the Defence Secretary.
