Since November last year to July this year, 67 raids have been conducted and 79 persons taken into custody for running unlicensed recruiting agencies, says the Sri Lanka Bureau of foreign Employment (SLBFE).

Ten persons have admitted to have run such agencies and have been fined Rs. 100,000 each and imprisonment in some cases. There are 69 cases pending in courts for the rest, said SLBFE Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka.

The SLBFE conducted these raids under the new act whereby it could take any person or persons conduction unlicensed recruiting agencies, Mr. Ranawaka added.
