Over 6,000 Police personnel are to be deployed to provide security in the Kandy area during the annual Esala Perahera. The overall supervision will come under Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Gamini Navaratne.

The police contingent includes six Deputy Inspectors General, according to the Police. Apart from the Sri Lanka Police, the three forces and the Civil Defence Force are also to assist in this security coverage which will begin on August 15, the first day of the perahera.
