The Central Province Deputy Inspector General’s office embarked on an operation of a different kind recently. Twelve couples who had been living together though their marriages had not been registered were assisted by Police to legally register their marriages.

This community assistance project is being carried out in the Kandy District and the first such registration was held in the Kadugannawa Police Division where the 12 couples were duly registered, said Central Province DIG Pujith Jayasundara said.

The Police have launched this project parallel to its mobile service assistance programme, said DIG Jayasundara.
