President Mahinda Rajapaksa today stated that he only needed five more members to complete the 2/3rd majority in parliament. He added that before the door was closed however now it is open for anyone who wants to join the government.

 

President said this at the 28th annual general meeting of the Public Administration Service Association.

 

Meanwhile the High Command of the SLMC is scheduled to meet today for an emergency discussion that will be chaired by party leader Rauff Hakeem. SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the President’s House in Kandy recently (Aug. 25) where they had a discussion that lasted for over an hour. After their meeting rumors were rife that the SLMC might back the government.

 

SLMC currently holds 8 seats in parliament 6 elected by vote and 2 through the UNF national list.
