Police have closed the main access road to the Parliament due to a protest being staged near the Polduwa Junction in Battaramulla, Ada Derana reporter said.

The demonstration was organized by several education sector employees’ trade unions including teachers and principals over several demands including solutions to the teacher-principal salary disparity, ensuring children’s right to free education, remove the burden of education placed on parents and to allocate six percent from the national budget for education.

Earlier today, the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court delivered an order after learning that teacher-principal trade unions were planning to stage a demonstration in the vicinity of the Parliament Complex in Battaramulla.
