Sri Lanka and Cuba foster agriculture and fight dengue fever

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena reportedly advocated for strengthening cooperation with Cuba in health care, the fight against the dengue epidemic, and agriculture.

At a meeting with Cuban Ambassador in Colombo Andrés Marcelo González at Temple Trees, Gunawardena thanked Cuba for its ongoing support for his country at the United Nations and other international forums, his office informed in a press release.

The prime minister highlighted Cuba’s assistance to Sri Lanka to fight the dengue epidemic, and affirmed the need for medical cooperation.

Gunawardena also emphasized the need to exchange new scientific and technological innovations in agriculture between the two countries, and told González that a donation of 200 coconut seeds would be made to Cuba shortly.

In the presence of MP Yadamini Gunawardena, Secretary to Prime Minister Anura Dissanayake; and the First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy, Maribel Duarte, the diplomat agreed to share his country’s experience in mosquito eradication with Sri Lanka’s health authorities.

The Cuban ambassador noted that there are possibilities to develop cooperation in food production, agriculture, and livestock in Sri Lanka.
