Operation ‘Yukthiya’: Scores of drug suspects arrested in over 2,300 raids

Carrying on the special island-wide operation ‘Yukthiya’ (Justice) to crack down on narcotics, Sri Lankan security forces have arrested scores of drug suspects in a 24-hour mission ending at 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Dec.19).

Police said a total of 2,296 suspects were arrested during 2,324 raids during this period. Among the arrestees are 85 women and 2,211 men.

Financial asset investigations have been initiated on 14 suspects and 184 individuals have been sent for rehabilitation. Additionally, detention orders were secured against 109 suspects.

The drugs impounded during the special island-wide operations include:

Heroin – 1.1kg 
Crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’) – 648g 
Cannabis – 11.6kg
Cannabis plants – 126,060
Hashish – 253g
Hash – 73g
Intoxicating pills – 19,507
Kush – 90g
‘Mawa’ – 46.2kg
