Security around churches beefed up for Christmas

Sri Lanka Police has implemented a special security programme in and around all churches across the island, in view of Christmas festivities and masses.

Speaking in this regard, Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa urged the public to contact the Police Headquarters via 011 247 27 57 in the event they deem the relevant security measures insufficient.

SSP Thalduwa also revealed that special operations will be carried out today (25 Dec.), to apprehend those driving under the influence of alcohol or attempting to disrupt the peace.

Meanwhile, Prisons Commissioner and Media Spokesman Gamini. B. Dissanayake revealed that a total of 1,004 inmates are being granted a special state amnesty today, in view of Christmas.
