CID Constable drowns off Katukurunda Beach

A police constable attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) who was sea bathing with a group of his friends at the Katukurunda Beach in Kalutara has reportedly drowned.

The 22-year-old police officer identified as Deshanjana Tharinda, was a resident of the Nagoda area in Kalutara, according to police.

When the constable was drowning after being dragged away by strong currents, the other individuals who were with him had shouted for help. 

Later, several local residents who arrived at the scene had taken steps to hospitalize the drowning victim, where he was pronounced dead.

Kalutara-South Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
