The 2023 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination kicked off this morning (Jan.04), with a total of 346,976 candidates sitting for the highly competitive national test.

The exam will go on until January 31 at 2,302 centres.

According to the Examinations Department, 281,445 of the candidates are school applicants while the rest of the 65,531 are private applicants.

Commissioner General of Examinations, Amith Jayasundara urged the students to go to their respective exam centres well before the test begins.

Speaking further, Mr. Jayasundara mentioned that a minor change was made in the exam timetable after Korean Language was added as a new subject. He urged the candidates not to refer to the previous exam timetable adding that the amended one is indicated in the admission card.

As inclement weather continues to wreak havoc in the country, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has taken measures to ensure that the candidates reach their respective exam centres without delays. As such, special exam centres have also been established to accommodate the candidates who are afflicted by torrential rainfall and flash floods.

Additionally, special dengue control programs were also conducted ahead of the commencement of the exam.

In the meantime, tuition classes, seminars, workshops, and other related activities targeting the 2023 A/L exam have been banned since December 29.
