Minister Jeevan hints at water tariffs reduction

January 11, 2024   05:01 pm

The water tariffs are expected to be slashed in line with the proposed electricity tariff reduction, says Jeevan Thondaman, the Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development.

Speaking at an event held in Kandy today (11), Thondaman asserted that the government is making arrangements to provide the maximum possible concessions to the general public.

Furthermore, the minister also said that a pricing formula would be introduced for water tariffs, to not exert more pressure on people, but to provide relief.

“One of the main factors required for water treatment is electricity. So, if the electricity tariffs are reduced, we will definitely reduce the water tariffs as well”, he said.
