WSO2Con 2010 unveils in Colombo

In celebration of its fifth anniversary, WSO2 the open source technology company, hosts the first WSO2 Conference - WSO2Con 2010 - at HNB Towers, Colombo, Sri Lanka on the 14th and 15th of September.

“As an organization passionate about placing Sri Lanka at the forefront of the global market, we are thrilled to be hosting the first WSO2Con in Sri Lanka. WSO2Con will become an annual event and spread to other places around the globe, with the vision of bringing together a technology community to exchange knowledge, vision, and share best practices and success stories,” said CEO Sanjiva Weerawarana.

Designed to help prepare organizations for the future enterprise, WSO2Con 2010 stems from the recognition that enterprise IT architecture evolves at a rapid pace, constantly unleashing new possibilities and increasing both the expectations and the demands of business. At the center of this rapidly changing environment stands the unique convergence of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Cloud computing. WSO2Con 2010 will focus on the implications of and opportunities unleashed by this convergence.

Under the title “SOA and Cloud Computing: Blueprint for the Future Enterprise”, WSO2Con offers sessions that will help free organizations from a technological rut and will improve their ability to better compete in a global environment. Designed for a diverse core audience, topics will cover areas of vital interest for IT executives, architects, and developers by encompassing the technologies, practices and changing development and deployment environments of modern enterprise IT. Other sessions serve a business audience with a look at the intersection of the forces shaping the business world today and the opportunities created by the emergence of open source, cloud services and technologies, and globalization.

WSO2Con will feature some of the most renowned industry thought leaders. Keynotes for the event include WSO2 CTO Paul Fremantle’s presentation on “Enterprise Computing in 2020” where he’ll dust off his crystal ball and lead you through a vision of future enterprise architecture developments. Prof. Rohan Samarajiva, Chairman & CEO, LIRNEasia, will also present on the expectations for the future in his keynote “Imagining the Future and Making it Happen.”

“WSO2 exemplifies what Sri Lankans can do when they dream big and follow through.  When we were planning eSri Lanka, Sanjiva Weerawarana talked about Sri Lanka becoming a leader in open source software. That was the dream; Lanka Software Foundation was the follow through. We now are a significant force in open source. He then talked about a Sri Lanka based firm that would provide services in the open source middleware space. At close to 100 employees and on a rapid growth path WSO2 is the second dream realized.  I am waiting for Sanjiva’s third dream,” said Prof. Rohan Samarajiva.

Sanjiva Weerawarana, joined by James Clark, father of XML & founder of the Thai Open Source Software Center, and Jonathan Marsh, VP Business Development and Marketing at WSO2, will gather in a round table chat where they will look at the past with “A Walk Down Memory Lane: XML, Web Services & SOA from 1990 to 2010” and how the implications of that history continue to resonate through to the present.

Registration is now open and can be accessed along with more information at the conference website - http://wso2con.com
