Former BASL Secretary appointed to CBSL Governing Board

Attorney-at-Law Rajeev Amarasuriya has been appointed to the Governing Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
The former Secretary to the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) was appointed by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, upon having received the approval of the Constitutional Council.
Amarasuriya is renowned for his introduction of innovative and highly successful Continuous Legal Education and Professional Development Programmes, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. These initiatives include 175 publicly accessible webinars and the introduction of BASL Online Certificate Courses, which continue to benefit the legal fraternity and law students.
Additionally, he holds various prominent positions such as a Member of the Council of the University of Colombo, a Board Member of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Board, and an Executive Committee Member of LAWASIA.
Amarasuriya has also served in roles such as Member of the Council of Legal Education of Sri Lanka and Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka. Furthermore, he is actively involved in academia as a Member of the Standing Committee on Legal Studies of the UGC and has contributed significantly as the Founder Editor of the Junior Bar Law Journal and the Bar Association of Sri Lanka Sinhala Law Journal.
Academically, he holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree with Honours from the University of Colombo, is a Gold Medal Winner of the Sri Lanka Law College, and is pursuing his PhD at the University of Colombo. Additionally, he is a Fellow Member of CIMA (UK) and CMA Sri Lanka, and an AFGG-Raisina Fellow, with a notable record of presenting papers at both international and national conferences.
