Parliament has no right to get the 18th Amendment to the Constitution passed in Parliament, said United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe while marching with protestors towards Parliament from Siri Kotha in Kotte.

Meanwhile, our correspondent says the protestors have been stopped at Bangalawa Junction in Kotte after protestors burnt an effigy and a protestor had thrown a burning piece of jute cloth towards the watching policemen.

A constable’s uniform had caught fire due to the burning gunny bag, but had been extinguished. This incident had caused a near fisticuff between the police and the protestors. However the intervention of DIG Daya Samaraweera had prevented the affair going out of hand.

However, the situation is reported to be tense in the area.
