The JVP today filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court over the arrest of MPs and members in Galle on August 12. Seven persons including JVP MPs Vijitha Herath and Arjuna Ranathunga filed the petition.

In the petition the JVP claims that the police used unnecessary force to disperse a peaceful protest and that they remanded a few of their MPs and members subsequently.
