Govt. to intervene in paddy purchasing - Agri. Minister

The paddy purchases will be made through the intervention of the government this time, says Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.

However, the Minister expressed that there the farmers are facing a problematic situation regarding the prices of paddy.

“We need to consult farmers’ organizations before taking decisions. This time, we recommended commencing the cultivation first. Our recommendation is to conduct all cultivation activities before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.”

“There is an issue pertaining to the prices of paddy. The purchasing of paddy will be carried out under purview of the Ministry of Finance. Financial support is facilitated through banks. We will intervene in it.”
