Parliament to meet three days next week

The Committee on Parliamentary Business which met on Thursday (Feb. 15) under the chairmanship of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana has decided to convene the parliamentary sittings on three days next week – 20, 21 and 22 February.

 

However, the Parliament will not meet on Friday (Feb.23), as it is Poya Day.

 

Accordingly, on Tuesday, the Parliament will meet at 9.30 a.m. and the Second Reading of the Secured Transactions, Trust Receipts (Amendment), Mortgage (Amendment), Finance Leasing (Amendment), Inland Trust Receipts (Amendment), Companies (Amendment), Registration of Documents (Amendment) Bills have been scheduled to be taken up for debate, the Parliamentary Communications Department said in a statement.

 

Moreover, Orders under the Strategic Development Act published under the Extraordinary Gazette No. 2360/36 and Regulations under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act published under the Extraordinary Gazette No. 2366/19 have also been scheduled to be taken up for debate.

 

Thereafter, the Motion at the Adjournment Time by the Government will be taken up from 5.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., it added.

 

On Wednesday, two Resolutions under the Essential Public Services Act published under Extraordinary Gazette No. 2371/11 and No. 2371/16 are slated to be approved without a debate at 9.30 am following which, Regulations under the Judicature Act published under Gazette Nos. 2238/34, 2303/23 and 2362/67 are scheduled to be approved post-debate from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m., the statement said.

 

Thereafter, the Adjournment Debate on the Current Situation of the Country brought in by the Opposition will be taken up from 10.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

 

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Communications Department stated that time has been allotted for the Vote of Condolence on the late State Minister Sanath Nishantha on Thursday (22).
