Military officers have betrayed their uniforms to appease the orders of the country’s highest post, claimed former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka’s wife Anoma Fonseka this morning.

Officers sitting at the Courts Martial against Sarath Fonseka have betrayed their uniforms to safeguard their future as they would be harassed if they did not do so. She sympathized with them as they had no alternatives, said Anoma Fonseka addressing a media briefing at the Solis Reception Hall at Koswatte in Nawala this morning (Sept. 19).

“Can they even drink a glass of water after giving such a verdict? They made puppets of themselves in this drama. The strings to move these puppets were held by the person holding the highest office in the country,” lamented Ms. Fonseka.

She added that the detention after the Presidential Election and Courts Martial against Sarath Fonseka were against international norms. It was merely a puppet show with the strings being held by the highest official of the country.

The first Court martial against Sarath Fonseka stripped him of all medals, decorations and ranks while the second found him guilty of irregularities in army procurements from HiCorp and sentenced him to three years imprisonment pending approval by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Commander in Chief. The president is currently overseas and is expected to arrive by end September.
