VIDEO: No pattern in criminals being shot dead - IGP

No pattern in the way underworld members get shot by Police, Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya said today. He added that these criminals are dangerous and police have to be armed when attempting to arrest them.

He said this when reporters questioned him on whether there was a pattern in the way many alleged criminals attempt to either shoot or throw a grenade at police when attempting to arrest them eventually leading to the suspect being shot dead.

The Police chief added that it is not easy to arrest these criminals who often try to escape. He added that since the criminals themselves are armed a shootout is inevitable.
