Four floors in the ‘Waldorf Astoria Hotel’ in New York have been reserved for the Sri Lankan President and his delegation while only 10 rooms were reserved for President Barack Obama and his group of delegates, says Central Provincial Council UNP member Shanthini Kongahage.

She said that 130 representatives from Sri Lanka have participated in the United Nations summit in New York costing the country millions of dollars.

Addressing a press briefing today the Provincial Councilor said that 80 first class plane tickets, each costing Rs. 120,000 have been purchased for the delegates while Rs. 5 million was set aside for the remaining 50 delegates.

Even though it was important that the President of the country takes part in the event, tagging along this many people, spending this much money greatly affects the country’s economy, Shanthini Kongahage added.
