‘Janashakthi Sailing Nationals’ 2010 at Bolgoda Lake this weekend

The Janashakthi Sailing Nationals will be held at the Bolgoda Lake this weekend (25-26 September). Sponsored by Janashakthi Insurance for the eighth consecutive year, this much anticipated Regatta is organised by the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka with the Ceylon Motor Yacht Club as the Hosting Club, and has attracted a large number of entries this year.


The boats will be launched from the Ceylon Motor Yacht Club at Indibedda, Moratuwa. Over 40 Boats in four categories are expected to take part. The four categories are the Optimist, Laser, Enterprise and GP 14. The races will commence on Saturday morning at 10.30 a.m with the Optimists sailing three races on Saturday and three on Sunday.


The Regatta is open to members of CMYC (Ceylon Motor Yacht Club), RCYC (Royal Colombo Yacht Club), BWSC (Bentota Wind Surf Club), RSA (Ruhuna Sailing Association) and the SLNSC (Sri Lanka Naval Sailing Club) and governed by the International Sailing Federation Racing Rules 2009- 2012, and also, The Sailing instructions.


President of the Yachting Association of Sri Lanka, Chandima Gunawardene thanked Janashakthi for its long and continued sponsorship of this now popular annual event. “We are grateful to Janashakthi for coming forward and supporting sailing as a sport among a large and growing base of such enthusiasts”.


Head of Marketing at Janashakthi Insurance PLC Paddy Weerasekera said that the Company was honoured to be associated with an event of this nature for the eighth consecutive year. “Sports play an important role in the lives of human beings. Not only does it bring recreational value, but it also helps in a healthy lifestyle. As a responsible corporate citizen in the insurance business, we consider it our duty to contribute towards the development of a healthier society. Sponsoring the Janashakthi Sailing Nationals 2010 is just one such example. With this end in mind we also extend our sports sponsorships to include such sports as Cricket, Hockey, Golf, Rowing, Athletics, Squash etc”.
