The United Postal Trade Unions Front (UPTUF) has launched a trade union action starting from midnight yesterday (12).

UPTUF convener Chinthaka Bandara stated that a 24-hour nationwide strike will be held till midnight today (13).

He further stated that the main objective of the trade union action is to demand the government to provide immediate solutions to the shortage of employees in the postal service.

However, Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara stated that it has been decided to immediately cancel all postal workers’ leave.

He expressed his disapproval of the ongoing trade union action stating that the Posts Department is already planning to take necessary steps for the ongoing concerns.

Ruwan Sathkumara further stated that all the necessary steps would be taken to ensure an uninterrupted postal service.
