AUDIO: Teen gives birth, NCPA steps in

A fourteen year old girl has given birth to a child at the Castle Street Maternity hospital, Anoma Dissanayaka, Chairperson, National Child Protection Authority told Ada Derana. The new born is reported to be underweight and undergoing special treatment.

 

 

The teenage girl’s father is not there and the mother is reported to be mentally retarded, Anoma added. She also stated that none of the girl’s family members were visiting her at the hospital and Doctors at the hospital had become suspicious when a 28 year old man had started visiting her regularly and had informed the NCPA.

 

 

The NCPA has taken the responsibility to protect and house both children under their care until inquires are completed, Anoma said.
