One dead, 5 injured as vehicle crashes into tree in Welikanda

A person has been killed and five others were injured in an accident involving a double cab in the Welikanda area.
Police stated that the accident had occurred this morning (15) on the Welikanda-Sinhapura road when the double cab was travelling from Sinhapura towards Welikanda, and had veered off the road due to the driver losing control of the vehicle causing it to crash into a tree.
Accordingly, the vehicle’s driver was killed on the spot and five passengers who sustained injuries in the collision had been admitted to the District General Hospital Polonnaruwa.
Police said that the deceased is a 52-year-old resident of the Sinhapura area in Welikanda.
Welikanda Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
