Sri Lanka’s Yevan David on Sunday re-wrote history by winning the Rookie Championship title and second place overall in the 2025 Euroformula Open Championship, becoming the first Sri Lankan racer to achieve both.
In the final leg of the Euroformula Open season at the Monza circuit, Yevan David finished second in Round 2 and claimed victory in Race 3 of the Monza stage.
With the title won by Tymek Kucharczyk and BVM Racing yesterday, Race 3 was for glory and fun.
Overall Vice Champion and Rookie Trophy winner Yevan David (Motopark) wrapped up his excellent campaign with a sixth win, equaling the toll of Kucharczyk (today seventh after a penalty for a contact), beating his teammates Everett Stak and Michael Shin.
Positive as always, the personable Sri Lankan commented: “It’s a great way to end the championship, despite the final result wasn’t the desired one. Still, I am very happy about a race perfectly executed today and about this season, which has really helped me to develop as a driver. A massive thanks to Motopark, it has been a pleasure to work with them and to drive this car.”
The eighteen-year-old will become the first-ever Sri Lankan driver to compete in the FIA Formula 3 Championship next year.
He signed with AIX Racing for the 2026 season, marking a significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s motorsport journey.
He also took two wins and a third place from his debut in the final round of 2024 in the F3-level series.
Prior to that, David competed in the Eurocup-3, Spanish F4 and UAE F4 Championships in 2024 in what was his first full season of single-seater racing after graduating from karts.
Before stepping up to cars, he came fourth in the 2020 IAME Asia Cup for X30 Junior karts, sixth in the 2021 FIA Karting Academy Trophy, won the silver medal in the Motorsport Games’ Karting Sprint Senior competition and in 2023 came eighth in the WSK Champions Cup and 19th in the FIA World Cup for KZ2 shifter karts.
David is AIX’s first FIA F3 signing for 2026, and the team has already announced Eurocup-3 racer Emmo Fittipaldi as part of its Formula 2 driver line-up for next year.
He is now set to become the first driver from Sri Lanka to compete in FIA F3.
