Woman injured in Meetiyagoda shooting succumbs

A woman, who was injured in a shooting near a restaurant at the Kiralagahawela junction in Meetiyagoda, has succumbed to her injuries.

The shooting occurred at around 8:30 p.m., police noted.

The cashier of the restaurant, who was seriously injured, was rushed to the Balapitiya Hospital where she succumbed.

Police stated that the shooting was carried out by two individuals who arrived on a motorcycle.

It has been reported that the attack targeted the sister of ‘Mahadura Nalin’, who was murdered about four months ago.

The shooting has been carried out as a revenge to the recent killing of the brother-in-law of the ‘Karandeniya Sudda’.

The Meetiyagoda Police are conducting further investigations regarding the incident.

Accordingly, the number of shootings this year has risen to 106, of which 54 people have died and 53 others have been injured.
