December holidays for Sinhala and Tamil schools extended

The Ministry of Education has announced that government and government-approved Sinhala and Tamil schools will remain closed from today (23) to January 04, 2026.

Meanwhile, Muslim schools will close for December holidays from December 27, 2025, to January 04, 2026.

Accordingly, all schools are set to reopen for the first stage of the for sit term of the 2026 academic year on Monday, January 05, 2026.
