Opposition Leader Sajith calls on nation to uphold peace, truth and unity this Easter
Mobitel Inner

In his Easter message, the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa highlighted that Easter is a sacred occasion symbolizing hope, resurrection, and new beginnings for society, extending warm wishes to the people of Sri Lanka.

He noted that Christian devotees around the world celebrate Easter with deep reverence, reflecting on the resurrection of Jesus Christ who triumphed over evil, and observing the 40-day season of Lent through fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection.

He acknowledged that, even amid celebrations, the painful memory of the brutal suicide attacks targeting churches and hotels on Easter Sunday seven years ago continues to linger.

The opposition leader emphasized that ensuring justice for the victims of these attacks and uncovering the truth remains a fundamental responsibility of the state, stressing the importance of upholding the rule of law, accountability, and transparency.

Calling for collective responsibility, he urged all Sri Lankans to build a society grounded in trust, peace, and unity among all ethnicities, religions, and communities.

He reaffirmed that, this Easter, while honouring the memory of the victims, the nation must remain committed to truth, justice, and a vision for a strong and just future.

Opposition Leader’s Full Easter Message:

‘‘Easter is a sacred occasion that reminds us of hope, resurrection, and new beginnings as a society. On this blessed day, I extend my warmest wishes to the people of Sri Lanka.

Commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who triumphed over evil, Christian devotees around the world celebrate Easter with great reverence and devotion.

Reflecting on His suffering, death, and resurrection, they observe the 40 day season of Lent through fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection.

Even as we celebrate Easter with renewed hope and expectation, the painful memory of the brutal suicide attacks that targeted churches and hotels in our country on Easter Sunday seven years ago continues to linger in our hearts.

It is a grave failure on our part as a nation that both past and present governments have been unable to deliver justice to those who were killed, injured, or lost their loved ones in the devastating attacks of April 21, 2019.

Ensuring justice for the victims of the Easter Sunday attacks and uncovering the truth remains a fundamental responsibility of the state.

This duty cannot be avoided. Upholding the rule of law, accountability, and transparency is essential in fulfilling this responsibility. I reaffirm that my position on this matter remains unchanged. To secure our future, it is our collective responsibility to build a society grounded in trust and peace, uniting all ethnicities, religions, and communities. Together, we must work to create a strong and just nation where such tragedies never occur again. This Easter, as we honour the memory of the victims, let us unite in our commitment to truth, justice, peace, and unity.’’
