Shooting reported at Galle Prison

A shooting incident has been reported inside the Galle Prison, the Police Media Division said.

According to police, the incident occurred when two inmates allegedly attempted to escape from custody. Prison officials had then opened fire to prevent the escape.

One of the inmates sustained injuries in the shooting and was admitted to the Galle National Hospital for treatment, police further stated.

Further investigations are underway.
