Jayantha Ketagoda to join UPFA

Parliamentarian Jayantha Ketagoda will join the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and support President Mahinda Rajapaksa, a source said.
Ketagoda became a member of the Parliament replacing Sarath Fonseka’s place, and represents the Democratic National Alliance (DNA).

In the political field in 1991 he was the Opposition Leader of the Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha.  In 1999 he was elected Member of the Western Provincial Council and obtained 2nd place in the preferential votes in the whole of Colombo district.  In the Parliamentary Elections in the years 2000 and 2001, he was elected a Member of Parliament.  Under the United National Party banner he became an Organiser of the Kaduwela and Avissawella Electorates too.

Ketagoda is a well known actor in stage drama and teledrama, and he entered this field in 1986 and gained artistic popularity within three (3) decades.  He is a Diploma holder from the Television and Cinema Training Institute of Sri Lanka. 

In 1991 he entered the political arena from the Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha in the Western Province of Sri Lanka.  His political career has spanned a number of years in being a Member of the Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha, the Western Provincial Council and the Sri Lanka Parliament.
