Danuna Thilakaratne surrenders to court; released on bail

Danuna Thilakaratne, son-in-law of former Army Chief Sarath Fonseka, has been released on bail after he surrendered to the Colombo High Court over the Hicorp fraud case.
He was released on a cash bail of Rs 400,000 and two personal bails of Rs 500,000 after being produced before High Court Judge Irangani Perera.
However, he has been prohibited from leaving the country for the duration of the court case while his passport has been ordered to be handed over to the court. Tilakaratne has also been ordered to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) every Sunday.
The case was postponed to December 23 by the Colombo High Court.
Sarath Fonseka, his son-in-law Danuna Tilakaratne and Director of HiCorp Pvt. Ltd. Wellington De Hoedt were accused of defrauding the Army by purchasing military hardware going beyond the tender procedure.
On March 15, 2012 Fonseka was acquitted by the Colombo High Court of the charges brought against him in the Hicorp fraud case.
