Gammanpila forms his new party ‘Pivithuru Hela Urumaya’

Western Provincial Council member Udaya Gammanpila who recently resigned from the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) has taken measures to establish a new party called ‘Pivithuru Hela Urumaya’ (PHU) under the symbol of ‘lotus’.

On 11 December, Gammanpila quite the JHU and pledged to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the forthcoming Presidential election. He said that a ‘policy decision’ led for his resignation.

The PHU will also assist the incumbent President at the election, a party source said.

However, the JHU, on 2 December, announced it will support Common Candidate, and will unite with the common opposition to win several issues including to bring back good governance and to abolish the executive Presidency.
