Met Dept. issues severe weather warning

The Met Dept. issuing a severe weather warning this afternoon stated that under the influence of the atmospheric disturbance, cloudy skies with showers or thundershowers will occur over most parts of the island particularly in the North-central, Eastern, Central, Uva and Southern provinces and the sea areas around the island.

Heavy rain (more than 100mm) are also expected at some places.
 
The sea areas around the island may be rough at times as the winds can strengthen up to 50-60 kmph at times.
 
There may be temporary localized strong winds (up to 80 Km/hr) during thundershowers. General public are advised to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
