January 13, 2015   03:43 pm

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today lodged a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against 12 former governmental members including former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, former Minister Basil Rajapaksa and former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Speaking to media, Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath called the bribery commission for an immediate investigation with respect to the corruption charges that the JVP made against the Rajapaksa family and some top governmental officials.

While charging that the bribery commission was being biased during past few years, Herath added “former Minister Basil Rajapaksa has already fled to the US. The commission is mandated to prevent anyone from leaving the country. The JVP has requested the commission to suspend the passports of these people until the investigations are concluded.”

He added that the bribery commission should conduct an unbiased investigation and they hope that the justice will be served in this case.
